Word of the Week | CONVICTION.

The word for this week is .

Definition of con·vic·tion:

1. the state or appearance of being convinced 2. a fixed or firmly held belief, opinion, etc. 3. the act of convincing

Personal.

A pretty strong, pretty powerful word. For me, it evokes a feeling of strength and focus. I would definitely say that I am person of conviction for my firmly held beliefs and very strong opinions. When expressing my own convictions, I often refer to the saying, “you’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything”. None of this wishy-washy stuff with me; have your feet on solid ground and know what you’re talking about.

Business.

In business having conviction is absolutely necessary to being successful – without a doubt. If you’re not convicted in your mission, purpose, product whatever, don’t expect anyone else to be either. You need to be like a heat seeking missile with your convictions and go with it. I am convicted that one needs to have deeply rooted convictions to stay in the game of being an entrepreneur. Do you have conviction to withstand the fundamental issues of entrepreneurship?!

Keep in Mind.

Two things to keep in mind regarding being a person of conviction:

1. Surround yourself with right minded people or groups who help support and achieve your conviction.

2. Develop a thick skin because having conviction is intimidating and scary to some people. Not everyone digs someone with conviction, as you’ve perhaps experienced in life at some point.

We’d love to know what you think about conviction as our and welcome and encourage any thoughts or pearls of wisdom you may have regarding conviction. What does it means to you personally or in business.

Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. as5 Word of the Week | CONVICTION. Winston Churchill

    Hey,

I am falling in love with this word of the week series!
Earlier I used to be a person who could be convinced very easily for anything at all! :) Quite a lot of people took advantage of that unless I realized that I needed to stand up for my own beliefs and have some of my own! Now, thankfully I am much more strong headed and more convinced that I have “my own mind”!

It’s so nice seeing you here and sharing in Word of the Week – thank you! You’re very kind too! :)

Oh my friend, I can soooo relate about the whole “taking advantage” thing … eek! I seemed to have gone through weird phases of being strong in my early years, weak in my 20s and mid-30s and am back on the whole convicted, head-strong bandwagon now … whew, thankfully!! ;)

I think you’ve got it going on pretty darn good Hajra and would definitely consider you a woman of conviction … a perfect blend of humor and conviction!! Whoo hoo – it doesn’t get any better than that!

Be safe! Have a great evening!

    Much kindness,

    Elena

    Hi Elena,
Conviction is a very interesting word.

Conviction needs a right balance. If people tell us that our business will not be successful we need conviction to tell them that they are wrong :)
Sometimes we need to be flexible enough to accommodate others points of view or decide to change the direction of our business. We need to be flexible enough to allow right things to happen.

But I think flexibility and conviction are not opposites. Flexibility is the opposite of rigidity , dogmatic, opinionated, while conviction is the positive meaning word. We all need conviction to survive as entrepreneur( you said it).

Do you think , I will pass any grammar/word meaning test ? ;)
As always this word thing is indeed a unique idea and I love your presentation.

    Have a great day.

    Hello Ashvini!

I hope you’re well! You definitely have some very good insight and points to add. I think you’d be good at doing these vlogs – we can share the duties any time you want! ;)

Absolutely conviction needs the right balance – this is a very important point (it also needs a reality check every once in awhile too (aka – flexibility – good!))! I think you do fabulous in the grammar/word meaning department – much better than I.

Thank you for the kind words about this idea – it’s fun and selfishly it really helps me. Many times, I’m asked what makes up an entrepreneur and it comes down to key, strong words that paint the picture for me.

Wishing you a fabulous, productive week! Look for the next WofW tomorrow. ;)

    Be safe!

    Much kindness,

    Elena
